Acne Scar Treatment - Why Is It So Invasive?

I have many friends who have never experienced such bad acne that they have been left with scarring, and they have always asked why I don't just use some of the products available at drugstores to get rid of acne scars. Many people don't realize that the invasive acne scar treatment procedures many acne sufferers turn to are really the only options they have for achieving their goal.

The reason for this is that the scars they are looking to treat are more than the red marks that those over the counter products are made to help. While it is true that red or brown marks are often left on the faces of acne sufferers, it is very often also the case that they experience a loss of tissue that can only be corrected by more invasive procedures, which are also naturally more expensive. Unfortunately, although there are some topical products that claim to fill in these holes, it is obvious that this is a very difficult thing to do, and results have not been great.

Raised scars such as hypertrophic scars can be treated topically, as they have not involved a loss of tissue. Indented scars, however, are commonly treated by injections of fillers such as collagen or fat. Laser treatment methods have also been developed, whereas other types of treatments aim to break up the scar tissue. A dermatologist will be able to recommend the type of treatment that is best for you, although it is recommended you get more than one opinion.

An option that I am considering is simply treating the discoloration of my scars, which are mostly boxcar scars. I feel that I would be satisfied with the marks so long as they did not stand out by their color. After experimenting with make up and successfully covering the color of my scars, I have found that I am comfortable with the way my face looks with the little pits. In my detailed research, I have felt that the procedures are not for me at this time, both for financial reasons as well as my general physical and emotional comfort.

But not everyone feels as I do, and not everyone has the same scarring as I do. If anything, covering up and treating the discoloration is something that can be a temporary solution for you and your confidence level as you research acne scar treatment, find the right doctor, and save up money. In my personal situation, I feel that my approach to acne scars, paired with my blackhead remover knowledge will leave my skin in a condition I can be happy with.

Acne Control - Should You Reduce Your Sugar?

Ever since people started getting acne, people have tried to draw a link between what you eat, and what happens to your skin. For decades, dermatologists said that what you eat didn't matter -- eat all the chocolate you want -- and that the belief that what you ate was a factor in your skin was completely untrue. But people don't always listen to their doctors, and conventional wisdom usually isn't entirely correct.

Now, it's probable that eating chocolate or oily foods are not the problem. But, it's becoming increasingly accepted that what you eat -- your diet -- it at least a factor in the quality of your skin. In fact, lots of dermatologists now see a link between glucose, and the amount of sugar in your diet, and the pimples in your skin. In fact, studies are starting to show a link between the glycemic index of your diet and the blemishes in your skin.

The Glycemic index is a way to measure the amount of sugar increase in your body. This changes rapidly based on the food you eat, or other factors in your metabolism. A high index means you have a high blood sugar level, which creates a high insulin production level and other hormones. Elevated levels of these hormones can be a precursor to the creation of sebum, which is a substance that is well known to clog pores, and to eventually cause acne.

In a recent study of acne and sugar intake, they split the candidates, who all were male, into two groups. One were fed a low-glycemic food diet, and the other a standard diet. Those who were fed the low sugar diet showed significantly better skin, and a much better collection overall.

The science and research is still new, and not entirely proven. But people who are concerned about the complexion would probably do well if they minimized the amount of sugar they took in. This means sugar in its own form, plus other hidden places, such as spaghetti and pasta, potatoes, and other processed foods. Carbohydrates exist in lots of foods, not just candy and ice cream.

A Simple Home Body Acne Cure

Acne is a condition that affects everyone sooner or later. Getting acne on the face is the usual place the condition appears, but it also shows up in others areas as well. This is referred to as body acne. Treating body acne is not difficult and if you can follow these few simple steps to a body acne cure then you should be able to rid yourself of the problem without any hassles. However, if these steps do not work, then it is best to consult a doctor who may prescribe a more vigorous form of body acne cure, including oral medication. But following this course of action should be able to help you rid yourself of normal body acne. These steps apply to any part of the body where you may have acne and need to cure.

Combine milk and crushed ginger to create a home body acne cure and rub it onto the afflicted area of skin. Since chafing of the skin can make a acne problem worse, the next thing to be done is to wear loose and soft clothing that will not irritate the skin in the affected areas. Another suggestion is to apply fresh mint juice or raw papaya juice to the area that is covered with acne. If the condition does not improve after a few days, you could try adding the use of a skin cleaning lotion or gel to you to your body acne cure plan. If need be buy an acne treatment spay or gel - there are many over the counter products that can help in the overall acne cure process. You could even supplement the spray with special acne treatment soap.

This simple five step acne cure plan should be able to cure most normal acne problems. Also do not wear tight clothing, even if it is soft. Wash yourself at a minimum of two times a day, and more often if you tend to sweat heavily. If you play games where you sweat but cannot shower immediately, dry yourself off completely with a towel and wear dry clothes until such time as you can have a bath. An acne cure is as much about common sense precautions as about medication.

Acne Complex Vs Proactiv Solution

Acne complex is a treatment regimen formulated by dermatologist Howard Murad, M.D. This regimen is not that much different than the acne treatment system, Proactiv Solution, developed by doctors of dermatology, Katie Rodan and Kathy Fields.

Both systems, and probably many more that are not as well known, revolve around three core steps and accompanying products, that address the factors of skin breakouts. The major difference between these two systems is that Acne Complex contains no benzoyl peroxide, that can be irritating to sensitive skin.

The first step consists of washing the affected area with a deep-cleaning cleanser. Proactiv's cleanser is formulated with tiny exfoliating grains or beads. The Murad cleanser is silky smooth.

The next step involves using a toner, in gel or liquid form, that cleans and/or unclogs clogged skin pores.

The third step is the use of a skin perfecting or repairing lotion. This lotion hydrates or moisturizes the skin and heals blemishes.

The aforementioned steps and products comprise the core of both the Acne Complex and Proactiv Solution acne treatment systems. Of course, both manufactures also offer additional specialized sundry products such as clarifying masks, body washes, and a SPF 15 oil-free moisturizer to help protect you from the sun's harmful rays.

Bear in mind that these two systems are preventative in nature. They heal or clear up your present skin problem, and they prevent further breakouts. As such, they recommended that you continue using their products everyday to stop acne before it starts.

Top 3 Treatments For Eliminating Acne Scars

We have probably all suffered from acne, to a greater or lesser extent, at some time in our lives and certainly, as much as 90% of young people seem to be particularly prone to its effects. Fortunately, despite its prevalence, relatively few sufferers are actually left with anything much in the way of acne scars, with even fewer scars being severe enough to warrant acne scar treatment.

For that unlucky minority there are a number of scar treatment options available, most of which are fairly effective, especially nowadays with our modern treatments such as microdermabrasion and acne scar laser treatment.

Different acne treatments call for different methods, with some more effective in one set of circumstances than they might be in another. Microdermabrasion, for instance, involves debrading the skin, with the top layers of the skin literally removed. Despite most people's skin acquiring a much smoother appearance following this procedure, microdermabrasion is not 100% successful in the case of acne scar removal.

Microdermabrasion can be carried out using a machine to literally peel off the skin or a similar effect can be achieved through the use of chemicals. Nevertheless, regardless of whether the procedure is undertaken with chemicals or machine, there is no guarantee that all acne scars will be permanently removed with this procedure.

Instead of actually removing scar tissue, a procedure has been developed that is quite effective at hiding the scars. This procedure involves collagen injections, similar to those used to eradicate lines and wrinkles. Collagen injections, or skin needling, are not a cheap option. They also need to be repeated on a regular basis. Nevertheless, the effect of hiding the acne scars is actually quite effective.

A form of plastic surgery is obviously the one of the best treatments. This can be through autologous fat transfer or through punch grafts. In the case of autologous fat transfer, fat is removed from a different location on the patient's body and then injected back beneath the skin in the location of the acne scars.

A punch graft is reserved for repairing those really deep gouges left by the most serious acne scars. It involves removing the scarred skin and replacing it with tiny skin grafts using skin taken from elsewhere on the patient's body. Punch grafting is a very effective, if somewhat drastic, method of removing scars.

Acne scar laser treatment is quite a new innovation and, of all the methods currently on offer, this is by far the best acne scar treatment so far available. The actual laser treatment involves smoothly vaporising the skin that has been damaged through acne scarring. This procedure, also known as laser skin resurfacing, is very effective indeed. Once healed the skin is completely unblemished. You would never know that you had ever suffered from acne scarring.
