Acne Control

If you are one of the millions of people who, unfortunately, have to experience acne- you should be aware of treatments available to you. There are ways to control the condition until your body can manage its hormonal spikes, or even eradicate the problem altogether.

As far as 200 years ago, there have been treatments for acne. From bathing, to benzoyl peroxide, to laxatives, and laser therapy- the years have been abundant with treatments. The first treatment that became successful was benzoyl peroxide. It is a form of anti-bacterial that comes in concentrations of 2%-10%. It should be noted that smaller concentrations don't necessarily perform less- in fact, it is recommended you get smaller concentrations to lessen irritation on your skin. There is a reaction to the chemical initially, making your acne worse. This reaction will subside, leaving the user to reap the benefits of the popular acne treatment.

The invention of tretinoin became a huge success for the conditioning of acne. Treatments such as Accutane or Roaccutane were developed from the discovery, and are extremely effective in curing acne. However, it is a long process of which is very stressful to the user. Extreme counter-reactions to the drug can produce much worse acne than previously had for up to a few months, before results are seen. The drug is also considered dangerous- you must get blood tests regularly to make sure there is no damage to your body as a result. It is considered to be an option for extreme cases only, as there are high risks involved.

Laser and light treatment recent became available. Lasers can be made to burn hair follicle sacs- killing the potential home of bacteria. Sebaceous glands can be burned, to prevent the secretion of oil. They can also be used to induce the formation of oxygen, a threat to bacteria. Laser treatment is considered to be quite expensive, but extremely effective. Light treatment has shown progress as well. In around 4 weeks, exposure to certain light patters can reduce some acne to 60% of its original strength.

From the 1800's, there have been prominent discoveries. More recent discoveries such as laser treatment have put hope into thousands of puberty-stricken teens who suffer from the condition. With all the options, getting rid of acne shouldn't be too hard- although expensive it may be. Still, money seems like a fair trade when dealing with one's self esteem.
